Why We Need Body Compositon Analysis?

Human body consists of elements like water, fat, protein and minerals of a certain ratio. This ratio is balanced in healthy bodies, but when it is unbalanced, there will be many diseases occurred in the bodies, for example, obesity, edema, metabolic disorder and malnutrition.

● To evaluate the obesity level and health risk
● To predict the risk of chronic diseases
● To set proper fitness goals and trace the results
● To control body weight and to build body shape
● To make the diet plan

BIA Technology

Human body is composed with body water, protein, mineral and body fat. Different com- ponent has different opposition to the electrical current.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) works by sending a small electrical current through a person and measuring the opposition of that current (impedance) when it travels throughout the body’s water. Once impedance is measured, body composition is
calculated.

Total body water can be divided into 2 compartments: intracellular water and extracellu- lar water. Electric currents of different frequencies penetrate the cell membrane different- ly. Low frequency current flows through the extracellular water but are unable to pene- trate the cell membrane. A higher frequency will measure the intracellular water because it penetrates the cell membrane. Our BCA series uses 2~6 different frequencies of current to measure water inside and outside the cell separately, and to provide the most
accurate body water analysis.

The 8 points of contact come from the two thumb electrodes, two palm electrodes, two sole electrodes, and two heel electrodes.

The design of the electrodes creates a simple holding and standing position that is easy to reproduce and to ensure high accuracy and reproducibility

High Correlation to DEXA-the Gold Standard

DEXA is a medical test that sends X-rays through human body and measures the difference between the amount of energy initially sent through the body and the amount detected after it exits the body.

DEXA was originally designed to measure bone density, but now it is also used to measure body fat and muscle mass and regarded as a “Gold Standard” for measuring body fat percentage.

Based on the most advanced technology, Seehigher device has been found to have a high correlation of 0.986 to DEXA for body fat and 0.984 to DEXA for lean body mass in a population of adults.

Real Multi-frequency

Electric currents penetrate differently, depending on the frequency. Some frequencies are better suited for measuring body water outside the cell, while others can pass through cell membranes to measure total body water.

Early BIA devices only use one frequency at 50 kHz to measure total body water. Since 50 kHz or lower frequencies barely pass through the cell membrane, accurate measurement of the impedance in theintracellular water was not possible.

By using real multiple frequencies varying from 1 kHz to 1 MHz, we are capable of measuring both the intracellular water and extracellular water to provide the most precise body water analysis.

Segmental Analysis

Different segments of human body play different roles in total body impedance. With the most advanced BIA technology, we consider the body as five segments: Right Arm, Left Arm, Trunk (area between the neck and legs), Right Leg, and Left Leg. Each segment especially the trunk is measured accurately and independently, thus to ensure the accu- rate composition analysis of segments and also the entire body.
